Oktoberfest opens at SteelStacks

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A little rain couldn't keep folks from flocking to the Steelstacks in Bethlehem for Oktoberfest weekend.

It's an eight day celebration of brats and beer and music.

What else would you expect, polka is king at the first ever Yeungling Oktoberfest at Steelstacks.

"It's an authentic German Oktoberfest with Pennsylvania flair," said ArtQuest's Mark Demko. "Eight days of great live music, polka music, plus rock, dances party bands going on all weekend as well as next weekend."

But what would Oktoberfest be complete without the food?

"We had some good food the worsts are very delicious. We had bratworst and perogies," said vendor Christine Holman.

And to wash it all down? You guessed it: the beer.

"I like Yuengling beer so that's what's good. I bought the Oktoberfest, the new Yuengling Oktoberfest beer here," said Ken Gilman.

"We have German beer steins, leaded unleaded. Probably the most famous is the glass flute from the beer fest," said Geoffrey Deen with Switzerland Old World Gifts.
For those who take their festing seriously there is a stein for you.

Geoffrey Dean with Switzerland Old World Gifts out of the Poconos says he's excited to have a new venue to show off his wares.

"I think the weekend will be really strong for us. I'm looking forward to see who's coming in," said Deen.

Artsquest officials say they expect a lot of people to come in, rain or shine.

And should it rain there are plenty of tents to sit under and enjoy the all that Oktoberfest has to offer.

"It seems like the people are very friendly here so it's just very nice," said Jeff Holman.

There are also a lot of kid friendly activities going on. Saturday you don't want to miss the daschund races, they are sure to delight the kids, among many other activities.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids at the gate.

If you come out remember to bring your umbrella.
