One killed in crash on Route 22

Rt. 22 crash leaves one dead

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Officials said one woman was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Route 22 in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, early Sunday morning.

State Police in Bethlehem said a car traveling west on Route 22 failed to observe slow traffic on the highway.  They said the front of the vehicle hit a box truck around 2:40 a.m. and became entrapped underneath the truck.

The driver of the car, 29-year-old Angela R. Pessina, of 790 Benner Road in Allentown, was rescued from the vehicle and transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where she was pronounced dead at 4:29 a.m.

The Lehigh County coroner's office said the cause of death was due to severe head injuries, and the death was an accident.

The coroner's office and State Police-Bethlehem are conducting the investigation.
