Over $100,000 in 'safe school grants' awarded to local districts

BETLEHEM, Pa. - Over $100,000 in Safe School grants has been awarded to five local school districts.

State Senator Lisa Boscola announced the grants Friday:

  • East Penn School District - $30,000
  • Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit - $20,000
  • Easton Area School District $17,300
  • Northampton Area School District - $19,800
  • Colonial Intermediate Unit - Monroe, Northampton and Pike counties - $19,827

The Safe School grants are for two years and are intended for school resource officers and school police officers. They are to be used for training and compensation.

“Ensuring that our children are safe while in our schools is critical to the educational process. I am pleased that state dollars will be used toward hiring personnel and providing equipment to assist in ensuring student safety,” Boscola said in a news release.
