Businessman ordered to prison in streetlight scam case

EASTON, Pa. - A Lackawanna County man who was convicted of bilking Bethlehem Twp., Northampton Co., out of hundreds of thousands of dollars has learned his fate.

P.J. McLaine was sentenced Friday to 16 to 60 months in prison.

McClaine and Robert Kearns were found guilty of felony theft charges in January.

The men promised to save Bethlehem Township money on street lights, but township officials said they did almost no work and pocketed more than $800,000.

Kearns will be sentenced next week.

The men are also accused of stealing money from Coplay, Lehigh Co.
