Palmer Township investigate fatal hit and run

PALMER TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Did an argument inside of a shopping mall lead to the death of a teen in Northampton County?

That is part of the puzzle investigators are working to solve after a hit-and-run crash turned deadly Wednesday night in Palmer Township.

Around 9 p.m. Palmer Township police responded to the scene on Route 248 by the Palmer Park Mall.

There they found 18-year-old Zakaiyah Halley, of Phillipsburg, in the road after being hit by a car.

The person who called in the accident says the car then sped off.

Investigators are piecing together what took place in the street, but they are also trying to figure out what took place inside the mall.

Halley's grandmother says the Northampton County coroner told the family that Zakaiyah and a friend were at the mall.

After some time the two started arguing and the argument was so loud that both parties were asked to leave by mall security.

The deadly hit and run happened shortly after that.

Philipsburg police found a black Mazda with front end damage on Morris Street which is currently in the impound garage at the Phillipsburg Police headquarters.

As new of Zakaiyah's death spread through her neighborhood, neighbors were in shock.

"It's horrible, it's sad. I'm going to go over there today and give respects to the mom because I am good friends with her mother. This is horrible," said Ty Monroe.

So far, there have been no charges filed and police won't confirm if they have anyone in custody.
