Parents upset after Allentown day care ordered to close

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An Allentown day care has been ordered by the state to shut its doors, and a lot of parents are upset.

Some parents say they like Our Little Einstein's Day care on North 13th Street in Allentown, and now the state's decision to shut down the facility leaves them in a bind.

According to a letter sent by the state and obtained by 69 News, Our Little Einstein's had numerous violations over a period of several years. It was operating on an appeal for the last year.

During four different inspections, the facility didn't have enough adults supervising the children despite repeated citations by the state, according to state records.

The day care was also cited for allowing toddler-age children to sleep behind a bookcase out of sight of the staff.

The state says because the violations weren't fixed, they ordered the day care to close by May 12.

"There are no security issues, for two minor issues to try to shut a daycare down, this is our children's second home," said a parent.

Parents who talked to us said they had received notices from the day care about the violations, but still want the facility stay open.

They say a week is not enough time to find new child care and are upset they were not given more notice.

"I don't have family here in PA, this is my family. I really don't know what I'm going to do," said Jenny Ramirez, a parent.

69 News spoke with the attorney for the owner of the day care. She said they are appealing the state's decision to close it and have a court hearing scheduled for next week.
