Park Rangers to offer free summer programs for the public

BUSHKILL, Pa. - Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Superintendent John J. Donahue announced Wednesday that park rangers will be offering a series of free summer programs for the public on weekends throughout the summer.

Waterfall Walks will be offered every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Dingmans Falls Visitor Center.

These walks last about an hour and take participants along a ¼-mile boardwalk trail through a cool, shaded hemlock ravine to Silverthread and Dingmans Falls.

Birdwatching Hikes will be offered on Saturdays, July 19 and July 26 at Dingmans Falls and on Sunday, July 20 and 27 at Toms Creek.  Hikes will be on mostly level terrain and will last an hour.

Birders of all levels are welcome. Participants should bring water and insect repellent and wear sturdy shoes.

Binoculars and field guides are optional but recommended. Hikers meet at the designated location at 8 a.m.

Evening Campfire Programs will be presented at Dingmans Campground off Route 209 in Dingmans Ferry, PA, at 7 p.m. every Friday and Saturday evening.

Topics will vary but will include wildlife, plants, geology, and history of the park. Participants should bring a blanket or chair to sit on.

These programs are open to the public, but non-campers should check in at the campground office upon arrival.
