Parkland School District collects 20,000 pounds of food

LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. - A friendly competition is helping put food on the table of those who need it most.

For the ninth consecutive year students in the Parkland School District collected canned goods for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Eleven schools within the district competed against each other to see who could collect the most.

In just two weeks the students collected approximately 20,000 food items. It was all boxed and loaded into a truck Thursday.

This is the second-biggest collection benefiting the food bank each year. Organizers said next year they hope to collect even more.
