Pedestrian alleyways lighting up in downtown Easton

Easton Main Street Initiative completes phase one

EASTON, Pa. - The first of three lighting installations has been completed in downtown Easton's pedestrian alleyways.

European-style café lighting was installed this week throughout Lehn's Court, a pedestrian alley located in Centre Square. Lehn's Court is home to Rivals Sports Bar & Nightclub, Mothers Bar and Pearly Bakers Ale House.

Two additional pedestrian alleyways, South Bank Street between Northampton and Pine streets and North Bank Street between Northampton and Church streets, also have been selected for lighting installations beginning later this year.

The project by Easton Main Street Initiative's Design Committee is intended to spotlight downtown Easton's retail and restaurants. It also adds a lighting element for evening hours and increases walkability through downtown, according to a spokesman for the committee.

The cost of the Lehn's Court lighting was not made public by the organization.

EMSI has received financial support for the project from business and property owners  as well as from the city.

The first phase of the project was funded through Easton Main Street Initiative, a grant from the Lehigh Valley Chamber Foundation and Rich Rosati, owner of 1 Lehn's Court and a soon-to-open restaurant featuring coal fired pizza and pub at that location.

A dedication ceremony will be  at 5:30 p.m. Sunday outside Rivals Sports Bar & Nightclub. Rivals will host an outdoor concert and football kickoff patio party with Brian Kirk & The Jirks .

More information on the Easton Main Street organization is available online .
