Pen Argyl couple is behind bar after alleged burglary spree

Northampton County couple charged in rash of burglaries

Police say they got away with cash, jewelry, and guns.

Now a husband and wife from Pen Argyl are behind bars facing a long list of charges connected to an alleged burglary spree.

Investigators say the couple forced their way into the homes through windows or the front door.

Alert neighbors and a surveillance photo helped police catch them.

Richard Frutchey is spending the day picking up leaves.

Two months ago on August 8, 2013 his wife made a shocking discovery.

"She said oh my gosh we've been robbed because the jewelry that she had put on the dressing table, she went to put away. When she opened up the thing, she found the jewelry missing," said Upper Mount Bethel resident, Richard Frutchey.

Frutchey's home is one of more than a dozen police believe Jeremy and Felicia Carhart burglarized between June and August of this year.

Police say sometimes the couple forced their way into homes.  Other times, they found unlocked windows or doors.

According to court documents, the Carharts got away with over $35,000 in cash, guns and jewelry.

"They took my grandmother's diamond, and my mother's diamond ring," added Frutchey. "That's what bothered me the most because that was supposed to go on down through the family."

Investigators caught up with the couple after releasing this surveillance photo and neighbors told them they remembered seeing a red car at the time of the burglaries.

Police say the duo broke into homes in five different townships including Plainfield, Moore, and Upper Mount Bethel.

Richard Frutchey says he's happy the two are behind bars.  Now he just has to get over his fears.

"There could be another one right behind them, the way it is today in the economy and the way things go on," said Frutchey.

Jeremy and Felicia Carhart are currently in the Northampton County Prison with bail set at $50,000 for each person.
