Penn State-Drexel plan men's basketball game at PPL Center

This will be the teams' 1st matchup in 22 years.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - When Penn State and Drexel men's basketball teams meet for the first time in 22 years, it'll be at Allentown's new hockey arena.

The teams announced plans Thursday for a two-year series, the first scheduled for December 20 in the soon-to-be completed PPL Center.

The match will be the first college basketball game announced for the new venue.

The matchup in the PPL Center will be a home game for Penn State.

The Lions will take on the Dragons in 2015 at a Philadelphia-area arena at a date to be determined later.

Tickets for the Penn State-Drexel game in Allentown will be available from the Bryce Jordan Center ticket office in early fall, as well as at the PPL Center box office.

All Penn State fans, including students, who want to sit in the designated Penn State sections must buy tickets directly from Penn State.

"We are excited to play at the new PPL Center in Allentown," Patrick Chambers, fourth-year Penn State head coach, said. "With so many Penn State fans and alumni spread throughout the state, anytime we have a chance to play a game in front of them is something we will explore. We hope they will take advantage of this opportunity to come out as we take on a talented and well-coached team in Drexel."

"We look forward to playing at the brand new PPL Center," Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint said. "Our players are excited to have the opportunity to play at the state-of-the-art facility. We believe this game will be an exciting showcase for college basketball fans in the state of Pennsylvania."

The teams have not met since 1992. In the last matchup -- Dec. 21, 1992, the Nittany Lions won 73-64.
