Police allege man tried to hammer down door to get at girlfriend

He's accused of punching, kicking the victim

L. SAUCON TWP., Pa. - A Lower Saucon Township man is facing assault charges for alleging punching his girlfriend and then trying to break down the door where she sought refuge.

Police arrested Kevin J. Carver Jr. Monday night at his Leithsville Road home following the alleged assault. District Judge Roy Manwaring arraigned the 24-year-old Tuesday morning on assault, attempted assault and harassment charges.

Carver, who has no prior convictions, was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Lower Saucon Township police were dispatched to a home in the 1900 block of Leithsville Road about 9:15 p.m. following a 911 call in which a woman could be heard screaming in the background, according to court records. When an officer arrived, Carver walked outside to tell police that he had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend and that “it got physical,” according to records.

Inside, the victim was still locked inside a bathroom with a smashed door.

She told authorities that the couple began arguing during dinner and that Carver allegedly punched her in the face, kicked her in the side and tried to strangle her. She managed to escape and lock herself in the bathroom, prompting Carver to allegedly start smashing the door with a hammer, police said.

The officer said the victim’s face and neck appeared to be red.

Carver’s next court date is a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 27.
