Police: Allentown love triangle leads to shooting

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Police in Allentown say a love triangle led to the shooting of two people overnight.

Police were called to 23 Adams Island for a shooting around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Officers arrived to find a 45-year-old man from Catasauqua, with gunshot wounds to the body.  His 41-year-old wife was shot in the foot, according to police.

Police say their investigation revealed there is a love triangle between Johnathan Melendez, 29, of Allentown and the wife. Melendez was at this address, a fourth party's home he had access to, in order meet up with the wife, according to police.

Police say the husband showed up with a legally-owned handgun to confront his wife, who was also carrying a legally-owned handgun, and Melendez.

Melendez got ahold of the wife's gun and fired four times, according to police. Police say the husband was hit 3 times and the wife was accidently shot in the foot.

Melendez was arrested for being a felon not to possess a firearm.

Police say the husband is in serious, but stable condition and the wife was treated at the hospital.

Melendez is expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
