Police: Allentown woman stabbed her grandfather to death

Chene A. Mejias is being detained in New York City

03 Homicide investigation in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Chene Angelique Mejias has been charged with criminal homicide in the stabbing death of her 65-year-old grandfather on Monday in Allentown.

Early Tuesday morning, Allentown police found the body of Wilson A. Mejias in the bedroom of his apartment at 841 S. 12th St., where he lived with the defendant.

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said the man died from multiple stab wounds.

Chene Mejias, 21, apparently fled to New York City, where she was being detained on the arrest warrant issued against her.

Extradition proceedings will be initiated if the defendant does not waive extradition from New York, said a spokeswoman for Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin.

Investigators haven't commented on a motive in the case; however, the landlord said the family members had been feuding. Friday was set to be Mejias' last day as Wilson was set to throw her out.

At about 2:26 a.m. Tuesday, Allentown police received a call from police officers in Bronx, N.Y., who reported that a female came to their department and notified them a male has been killed inside a first-floor apartment at the S. 12th Street address.

When city police went to the apartment, they found the victim's body in a bedroom, covered in bedding, towels, sheets and plastic bags.

Grim pronounced Wilson Mejias dead at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
