Police arrest Allentown man with $15K worth of heroin

He was the subject of an ongoing investigation

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An Allentown man is facing a felony drug charge after police allege they found about $15,000 worth of heroin in his car.

Authorities charged Juan L. Amparo-Martinez, of Liberty Street, with a felony count of possession with intent to deliver and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance. District Judge Michael D’Amore arraigned the 27-year-old early Thursday morning, setting bail at $150,000.

Allentown police said Amparo-Martinez was the subject of an ongoing drug investigation, when he was seen Wednesday meeting with people for short periods at a time. Investigators conducted a traffic stop after he visited a “suspected drug location,” according to court records.

Police said Amparo-Martinez was uncooperative during the stop, and that a police K9 signaled the possible presence of drugs around the driver’s seat. Officers said they found a large ball wrapped in plastic underneath a restaurant menu on the driver’s floor.

The ball was about 205 grams of heroin worth an estimated $15,000.

Amparo-Martinez failed to post bail and was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 17.
