Police: Assault suspect threatens to shoot girlfriend

WILSON BOROUGH, Pa. - Police allege that a Northampton County man beat his girlfriend before taking her gun and threatening to “blow her brains out.”

Bernard D. Vaxter faces charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and illegal possession of a firearm following his arrest Saturday morning in Wilson Borough. District Judge Robert Hawke arraigned the 42-year-old that afternoon, setting bail at $40,000.

Borough police were dispatched to an apartment in the 1700 block of Northampton Street shortly after 9:30 a.m. Saturday to investigate a reported domestic assault. An officer arrived to find the victim bleeding from her lips and mouth, according to court records.

She alleged that Vaxter pushed her, punched her in the face and slammed her to the ground, according to court records. She accused of him of them taking her 9mm handgun and threatening to shoot her.

The victim told police that Vaxter was her boyfriend with whom she has two children.

Police said a criminal history check revealed that Vaxter is a convicted felon, preventing him from possessing a weapon.

Vaxter failed to post bail and was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 29.
