Police: Dad catches man photographing daughter in shower

SOUTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - A father took matters in to his own hands when he caught a man videotaping his daughter in the shower.

The victim's father reported to police that on May 19 he saw Gregory Scott Steckroth, 26, of Allentown, videotaping his daughter through an access panel with a Sony Vita hand held game system, according to a police complaint.

This reported incident of invasion of privacy happened in the 3700 block of Iron Bridge Road in South Whitehall Township.

According to police, Steckroth admitted to taking pictures of the victim, whose age has not been released, on more than one occasion and saving those pictures on his computer when the victim's father confronted him.

Steckroth then smashed both the Sony Vita and the computer hard drive in front of the father and threw them away at the residence of the victim and the father.

Police found when investigating that Steckroth had removed a plumbing access panel and a screw in the hall outside the bathroom that made it possible for him to record inside the shower.

Steckroth is facing stalking and invasion of privacy charges.

According to court records, Steckroth was unable to post $15,000 bail Tuesday and was sent to Lehigh County Jail.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on June 10 with Magisterial District Judge Karen C. Devine.
