Police: Homicide victim found in car of alleged drug dealer

Authorities found a pound of pot in suspect's room

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Allentown police said they made a drug a arrest early Thursday morning after finding a homicide victim in the suspect's car.

Authorities charged Joshwynn A. Garcia, of the 400 block of Hamilton Street, with a felony count of possession with intent to deliver and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia after a search of his Hamilton Tower apartment allegedly turned up a pound of marijuana.

District Judge Michael D'Amore arraigned the 21-year-old Thursday night, setting bail at $50,000.

Allentown police responded to the 400 block of Hamilton Street about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday for a report of 10 or 11 gunshots, but officers found nothing when they arrived, according to court records.

The city 911 center received a call about 40 minutes later for a report of a man who appeared to be covered in blood lying inside a car. The car was parked in the Hamilton Tower parking lot.

Police determined the 1998 Infiniti was registered to Garcia, a person "known" to police "that had ties" to Hamilton Tower, according to court records. Police conducted a welfare check of Garcia's room, and officers said they immediately smelled "a strong odor of fresh marijuana."

Authorities secured a search warrant, and a search of the room about 6 a.m. Thursday allegedly turned up roughly a pound of marijuana hidden in a drawer and the ceiling. Investigators said they also found packaging materials and a digital scale.

Garcia failed to post bail and was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 16.

Authorities have identified the homicide victim as 19-year-old Parris Lane. Police said he died from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
