Police investigate officer-involved shooting outside Walmart in Lower Macungie

L. MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. - The coroner was called to the scene of an officer-involved shooting in Lehigh County Wednesday night.

Witnesses at the Walmart in Lower Macungie Township said gunfire broke out between a police officer and a possible shoplifter just after 9 p.m.

"People said that they heard the cop chasing the guy.. and then they just heard shots fired," a witness told 69 News.

Details are sparse, but state police did confirm an officer was involved in the shooting.

Witnesses said a possible shoplifter was being chased by a police officer, and got cornered in a white van in the parking lot.

The van's windows were seen broken after shots were fired.

The coroner's office was called to the scene.

State police are not releasing any more details until an 11 a.m. press conference Thursday morning.
