Police looking for 'evidence' in Lehigh River

Search taking place off Sand Island near Musikfest in Bethlehem

Allentown, Bethlehem dive teams search Lehigh River

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Police and dive teams from both Allentown and Bethlehem were searching the Lehigh River Monday afternoon for what one official described as "evidence" off Sand Island in Bethlehem.

Personnel were searching the water with metal detectors.

They were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. for what initially was described as a water rescue.

Many people attending nearby Musikfest were watching the activity in the water.

Although police wouldn't say what they were looking for, it is a piece of evidence of interest to Allentown police, according to a Channel 69 News crew on the scene.
