LOWER MOUNT BETHEL TWP., Pa. - More details are emerging about a family dispute that turned into a homicide case in Northampton County.

Dennis Long, 52, is accused of shooting and killing his stepson in Lower Mount Bethel Township Saturday night. But Long claims he didn't pull the trigger.

Police responded to the shooting at a farm property on Upper Little Creek Road around 10 p.m. Saturday.

There they found Long sitting outside his trailer on the front lawn. Inside the trailer, troopers found Ryan Boomer, 26, unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his upper torso, according to police paperwork.

Boomer, identified as Long's stepson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"They had been together earlier that evening and a disagreement occurred and ultimately resulted in a gun shot," said Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots and Long screaming "I shot Ryan," according to police.

Long later told officials he, his wife, and Boomer were drinking when they got into an argument about Boomer not having a job, according to paperwork.

Long said it escalated into a physical fight, and during the altercation he and his stepson were fighting over a rifle.

Long said the gun discharged, but that he didn't pull the trigger.

"My concern at that time was making sure that we did not release that individual so that he has been charged with a general count of criminal homicide," Morganelli said.

He was taken to Northampton County Prison where he is being held without bail.
