Police: Man argues with girlfriend, threatens unborn baby with box cutter

U. NAZARETH TWP., Pa. - Police allege that an Upper Nazareth Township man held a knife to his girlfriend’s stomach, threatening to kill her unborn baby unless she reported to her father that everything between the two was fine.

Upper Nazareth Township police charged Sean M. Nichol with simple assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats, criminal mischief and harassment. District Judge Capobianco arraigned the 25-year-old late Tuesday morning, setting bail at $50,000.

Township police were initially dispatched to the victim’s Newburg Road home shortly before 2:30 p.m. Sunday to conduct a welfare check. The victim reportedly called her father earlier asking that he come get her because she was being held against her will, according to court records.

The father reported to police that she called back a short time later, crying, begging him not to come pick her up, according to records. He told authorities that she reported she and Nichol “went for a drive to talk” and that everything “was fine,” according to records.

The victim told police that she had asked Nichol during an argument to leave the house. Enraged, Nichol allegedly began choking her and tried to shove her head underwater in the kitchen sink.

He allegedly smashed her cell phone, when she tried to call for help and held a box cutter to her stomach threatening to kill her unborn baby unless she called her father to report no problems between them. A police officer met the visibly shaken victim in a grocery store parking lot.

After failing to post bail, Nichol was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 2.
