Police: Man left kids in car while he gambled at Sands in Bethlehem

Man leaves children in car while at casino

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A New York man is in jail, accused of leaving two young children locked in a car while he was gambling at the Bethlehem Sands Casino.

Sands Casino security called around 10:24 p.m. Saturday to report two small children, a 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old girl, locked in a car unattended by any adults, according to Bethlehem police.

The vehicle was parked in the Sand parking garage.

Police said officials made several loudspeaker announcements inside the casino but no one responded.

Officials located the owner of the car about 40 minutes later. He was identified as Vaylon Wong, 47, of Brooklyn, New York.

Wong told police he owned the car, but the kids weren't his--they were his neighbor's and he helps take care of them.

But police said the children's last name was Wong, and when they saw him, they called him 'daddy.'

Wong became uncooperative and wouldn't tell police who or where the children's mother was.

The children are in the care of Northampton County Children and Youth Division.

Wong was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person.

He was committed to the Northampton County Prison on $20,000 bail.

The incident is under investigation by Bethlehem police, as well as the children and youth division.
