Police: Mom leads Northampton Co. police on chase with son, 9, in car

EASTON, Pa. - A Easton woman, who led police on a pursuit through two towns with her 9-year-old child in the car, is now behind bars, officials say.

Rebecca Johnson was the driver of a vehicle officers spotted in the area of Woodmont Cr. in Palmer Twp. around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, officials say. When police approached Johnson, who had outstanding warrants stemming from a January burglary in Wilson Borough, she took off though, leading police on a slow-speed chase, according to officials.

Johnson, 28, of Washington St., Easton, drove through Wilson Borough and then back into Palmer where she returned to Woodmont Cr. and refused to get out of her vehicle, according to police.

During the entire pursuit, Johnson's 9-year-old son was inside the vehicle, police say.

Officers were forced to break one of the vehicles windows and remove Johnson after she attempted to flee again, according to officials. She was taken into custody and sent to Easton Hospital for treatment of cuts sustained from the broken glass.

Johnson's son was not injured in the incident and was taken by a relative.

Johnson was arraigned by District Judge Yetter on burglary, robbery and criminal conspiracy from the original warrant with bail set at $750,000, according to officials. She will be committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of bail.

Officials from both Palmer Twp. and Wilson Borough say charges from the chase are pending.
