Police nab pair advertising pot sales online

They were arrested in McDonald's parking lot

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A Bethlehem pair is facing drug charges following their arrest in a fast food parking lot for allegedly trying to sell pot they advertised on-line.

Allentown police arrested Michael Hummel and Arieannah Keller, both of the 4000 block of Nazareth Pike, at the McDonald’s at 3020 Lehigh St. Thursday afternoon after arranging a weed deal through backpage.com. District Judge Jacob Hammond arraigned the pair Thursday night.

Investigators on Thursday found a posting on the website that featured various photos of pot for sale. Police arranged through text messages to purchase an ounce of marijuana for $230 and agreed to meet at the McDonald’s, according to court records.

Just before police arrived at the meeting spot, a man called to say he was in a white minivan parked in the McDonald’s lot, according to records. Authorities stopped a man later identified as Hummel after he emerged from the van and started walking toward the restaurant.

Detectives searched the 30-year-old and allegedly found an ounce of pot, a cell phone and $82. Police then apprehended the 20-year-old Keller, who was still in the van. They reported finding two bags of marijuana in a backpack found inside the van.

Police charged Keller with possession with intent to deliver, conspiracy and possession of a controlled substance. She was released on $20,000 unsecured bail ahead of a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for March 2.

Hummel faces and additional charge of criminal use of a communication device. He was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await his March 2 preliminary hearing after failing to post $20,000 bail.
