Police: Mom left infant in van while she drank at pub

BETHLEHEM TWP., Pa. - A mother left her two-month-old infant in a minivan while she spent hours drinking inside a bar in Northampton County, police said.

Bethlehem Township police were called to the Keystone Pub at 3259 Easton Ave. around 11:30 p.m. Thursday for a report of an infant left alone inside a vehicle.

Lisa Altif, 32, of 1845 Watkins St., Bethlehem, left her baby girl in the van for about five hours while she drank several glasses of wine inside the pub, according to court documents.

She left the baby in a car seat in the backseat of her locked minivan for the entire time, police said, with no diaper bag, formula or diapers in the vehicle. The outside temperature was 39 degrees by the time police arrived around 11:30.

When confronted by police, Altif said she'd only been in the bar for around 20 minutes, police said, but she registered a .126% preliminary breath test.

Police said the car seat was strapped to the rear floor of the minivan with cargo straps as the rear seat was missing.

The baby was taken to a nearby hospital for examination and to allow her to warm up as she was wearing only a onesie with light socks and a light fleece blanket.

She was released to the custody of Northampton County Children and Youth.

Altif was found to be driving with a suspended license, and the car registration was expired, police said.

Altif was charged with endangering the welfare of children, driving with a suspended license, and expired registration. She was taken to the Northampton County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail.
