Police: Woman slashes husband, reports he's suicidal

She allegedly put knife in his hand after attack

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Authorities allege that an Allentown woman slashed her husband’s head and tried to cover it up by telling police he was suicidal.

Police said Barbara A. Entzminger even went so far as to put the knife in her husband’s hand before calling paramedics. The 60-year-old is now facing aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment charges in connection with alleged attack inside the couple’s Ridge Avenue home.

Allentown police reported to the 200 block of Ridge Avenue just after 10 a.m. Saturday to assist paramedics. Entzminger had reportedly called emergency dispatch to report that her husband had cut himself on his head and was trying to kill himself, according to court records.

Police arrived to find the victim holding a carpenter knife and bleeding heavily from a roughly 7-inch cut on the right side of his head. As EMS transported him to St. Luke’s University Hospital, he allegedly told a paramedic that it was his wife who stabbed him, according to records.

As doctors operated on the victim, police questioned Entzminger in a hospital waiting room. Authorities said she allegedly admitted to stabbing her husband during an argument over his drinking.

Entzminger told police she put the knife in his hand, waited at least 10 minutes before calling for help and made up the story about her husband wanting to kill himself.

District Judge David Howells arraigned her Saturday afternoon, setting bail at $18,000. Entzminger was sent to Lehigh County Jail to await a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Feb. 21 after she failed to post bail.
