EASTON, Pa. - A woman and her boyfriend have been found guilty of second degree murder for the death of her grandmother.
A jury reached a verdict in the trial of Rebecca Johnson and Rogel Suero just after 7 p.m. Monday.
The two were found guilty of the death of Carrie Smith, 76, who suffered a heart attack after Suero and a friend robbed Smith's Wilson Borough house.
"Obviously we are not happy with the result but the jury has spoken, we respect that, we disagree with it and we'll see where it goes from here," said Suero's attorney, Phil Lauer.
"Simply watching him was all I needed to know this was not something he's happy with at all," Lauer said of Suero.
Prosecutors argued Johnson planned the January 2012 robbery of her grandmother. Suero and an accomplice carried it out.
Hours after the attack, Smith was taken to the hospital for chest pains and died of a heart attack two months later. Both said they were innocent.
Some of the other charges the two were found guilty of include robbery, aggravated assault, and terroristic threats, along with several others.
"I'm sure there will be motions and appeals down the road," said Lauer.
A sentencing date for both Johnson and Suero is set for December 5.
