Religious rally gets heated response at NCC

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - There were some tense moments during a religious rally at Northampton Community College Wednesday.

Members of a church in Philadelphia arrived to speak out against homosexuals and Muslims, among other groups.

Members of the Key of David Christian Center had signs that said "Stop Sinning, Obey Jesus or Hellfire" and "Muslims, Atheists, Whores, all liars will go to hell."

About a hundred people gathered to hear the group. There were some heated exchanges between the speakers and NCC students but no reports of any arrests.

Police kept a watchful eye on the demonstration.

"This afternoon, our campus was disrupted by a group of individuals promoting a message of hate and intolerance," said the president of NCC, Dr. Mark Erickson, in a statement. "In response, our students, faculty and staff set up speakers and countered with a positive, high-energy dance party drowning out the offensive message of our visitors. Quite literally, our students responded to hate with love."

We're told the same church group will be at Bucks County Community College Thursday.
