Responding to fight, police allegedly find screaming drunk

HELLERTOWN, Pa. - When Hellertown police arrived at a Front Street home Sunday to investigate a report of a fight, officers allegedly found a drunken man laying on the sidewalk screaming obscenities.

William J. Hitchcock-Sahr Jr., of Kiernan Ave. in Hellertown, faces a simple assault charge, for allegedly pulling a woman’s hair and grabbing her by the neck. District Judge Robert Hawke arraigned the 21-year-old early Monday morning, setting bail at $10,000.

Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Front Street shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday to investigate a report of a fight in progress. When an officer arrived, he reportedly found Hitchcock-Sahr on the sidewalk, screaming obscenities at the person inside the house, according to court records.

Police allege Hitchcock-Sahr reeked of alcohol as he spoke to the officer.

The victim, Hitchcock-Sahr’s girlfriend, told police that he pulled her hair and touched her neck, according to court records. The officer said he observed red marks on the woman’s neck.

A juvenile witness told police that he heard yelling, so he went downstairs to see another man trying to control Hitchcock-Sahr, while he grabbed the victim by her hair. Records do not indicate who the boy’s relationship to anyone involved in the alleged fracas.

Along with a misdemeanor count of simple assault, police charged Hitchcock-Sahr with summary offenses of harassment, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. The judge allowed for a 10 percent cash option, and Hitchcock-Sahr was released Monday when someone posted $1,000 cash bail on his behalf.

The judge required in Hitchcock-Sahr’s bail conditions that he undergo anger management and a mental health evaluation. Hitchcock-Sahr’s next court date is a preliminary hearing set for Jan. 18.
