Second Harvest Food Bank moving to bigger warehouse

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An Allentown-based food bank will soon be able to help more residents get what they need.

The Second Harvest Food Bank is relocating. The Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley announced Monday that it is moving the food bank to a 65,000-square-foot warehouse in East Allen Township, Northampton County.

The food bank delivers millions of pounds of food each year to six surrounding counties.

"We don't ever turn away food if we can avoid it, but by the same token, you really need to have enough space to be able to handle the needs of the people who live in this community," said Barbara Bigelow, chairwoman, Second Harvest Food Bank Advisory Board.

Food bank officials said they hope to open the new location by February. The current location in Allentown is now up for sale.
