Senator Casey pushes new measures aimed at helping veterans

WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - U.S. Senator Bob Casey was in town Monday to tackle the controversial topic of the backlog of veterans waiting to have their disability claims processed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Senator Casey visited a VFW in Whitehall to lay out a bipartisan plan to reduce that backlog.

He also pushed for Congress to take up a comprehensive veterans bill that was blocked earlier this year by four votes.

His announcement comes just a few days after the head of the VA resigned amidst the scandal.

The Senate is also set to take up a new bill which would allow veterans facing long delays to get care outside the VA system.
