Shankweiler's Drive-In Theatre up for sale

N. WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - America's oldest operational drive-in movie theater is up for sale.

Shankweiler's Drive-In, located in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, is listed for $1.2 million.

The nearly 4-acre property that sits just off of Route 309 was built back in 1934.

Owner Paul Geissinger, 65, says it's time for him to retire and enjoy life without having to work.

"There's nothing mysterious about the sale," he said. "The theater is profitable and we are ready to open this season if we don't sell it."

Shankweilers was Pennsylvania's first drive-in, and only the second drive-in to open nationwide.

This past year marked the drive-in's 84th consecutive season.
