Nazareth Middle School teacher accused of sexual assault

NAZARETH, Pa. - A Nazareth Middle School teacher is behind bars, accused of sexually assaulting a student at the school.

Shawn Salvesky is facing numerous charges, including sexual assault and corruption of minors.

"Honestly, I wasn't all that surprised to hear about it," said a woman whose daughter was one of Salvesky's students. "My daughter has made mention of him in the past, that he was always kind of odd and he really liked to hang around the kids, like a lot."

The male victim told a friend about the inappropriate contact. The friend then told school administration, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The victim said the assaults took place from January 2011 to March 15, 2013, according to court documents.

Parents said the investigation of the allegations started two weeks ago.

"My children heard it going around," said one parent. "My daughter is at the middle school and he just wasn't there anymore."

All of the meetings between Salevsky and the student took place at school in the theater/drama room, according to court documents.

Salevsky, who is from Macungie, Lehigh Co., is facing a number of charges, including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault and corruption of minors. He is now behind bars on $75,000 bail.

"I think he deserves to be there. Nobody that has inappropriate contact with a child belongs in a school," said one parent.
