Nazareth teacher to stand trial on sex assault charges

NAZARETH, Pa. - A teacher accused of sexually abusing a student for more than two years is heading to trial.

Shawn Salevsky waived his preliminary hearing before a district judge in Nazareth, Northampton Co., on Wednesday.

Salevsky, 39, of Macungie, Lehigh Co., was the drama teacher at Nazareth Middle School when he sexually assaulted a male student on multiple occasions, police said.

The incidents happened in the school's theater/drama room between January 2011 and March 2013, police said.

Salevsky is due back in court for a formal arraignment on Aug. 8.
