Sinkhole opens up at shopping center entrance in Whitehall

Whitehall sinkholes

WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - Drivers on a busy road in Lehigh County are being diverted away from the entrance to a shopping center because of a sinkhole.

The hole opened up at around 9:30 a.m. Monday in the entrance to a shopping plaza on MacArthur Road and West Sutler Drive in Whitehall Township.

The hole is about 5 feet wide and drivers that are heading into the K-Mart and other shops in that plaza are being diverted.

No injuries or accidents were reported but a 69 News crew said there is another, smaller hole about 70 yards away, in the Lowe's parking lot.

Officials have not said how long it will take to fix the problem.
