Sinkhole opens at 12th and Highland in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A trash truck got stuck in a sinkhole in Allentown early Tuesday. It happened at 12th and Highland streets around 6:30 a.m.

The hole opened up and swallowed the truck's back tires until a tow-truck came to help out.

The sinkhole also exposed a gas line, prompting a call to UGI. UGI officials said the pipe was not damaged and they did not have to send a crew.

Crews are working to fill the sinkhole.

Highland Street between 12th and 13th streets was closed for most of the day but officials say it will reopen at 3 p.m.

Officials are still not sure what caused the sinkhole. No nearby properties were damaged and it did not affect anyone's water or electricity, according to police.
