Slate Belt man accused of sexually assaulting boys for more than 2 years

Police said he was babysitting the victims

BANGOR, Pa. - A Slate Belt man is facing child rape charges after authorities allege he sexually assaulted two boys he was babysitting for more than two years.

Bangor police charged Thomas Zeiber, of Murray Street, with child rape, child endangerment and related offenses for the attacks that allegedly happened inside his Bangor apartment between roughly June 2010 and December 2012. District Judge Alicia Zito arraigned the 21-year-old late Wednesday afternoon, setting bail at $200,000.

Bangor police said the first victim reported to authorities in December that Zeiber sexually assaulted him when he was 6, 7 and 8 years old, according to court records. The now 12-year-old victim alleged Zeiber also sexually assaulted another boy, according to records.

Investigators interviewed the second victim in January, and he also alleged Zeiber assaulted him during the same time frame described by the first victim. They alleged the attacks happened in the bedroom of Zeiber’s then North Second Street apartment.

Court records specify that Zeiber was babysitting one boy and “supervising” the other.

The victims allege Zeiber would make them place truth or dare, “which quickly turned into dare or dare” in exchange for letting the boys play his PlayStation or with toys he provided, according to records. Investigators allege Zeiber would dare the boys to get naked and then make the victims dare him to get naked.

The victims allege Zeiber would perform sex acts on them and force them to perform sex acts on each other.

During an interview with police in January, Zeiber allegedly admitted to performing some of the sex acts. One victim told authorities he sexually assaulted on “numerous occasions,” while the other victim said he was assaulted at least 15 times. Zeiber allegedly admitted to assaulting the boys 10 times, according to records.

Police charged Zeiber with three counts of rape of a child, four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, two counts each of child endangerment and corruption of minors and four counts of indecent assault.

He failed to post bail and was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Feb. 23.
