Smoke prompts partial evacuation of Gross Towers

Fire contained to small section of carpet.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A small fire prompted the partial evacuation of Gross Towers in Allentown Sunday morning.

Allentown fire officials said one woman was transported to the hospital for suspected smoke inhalation.  Officials said two juveniles were also assessed by paramedics but were not transported.

The call for the fire came in just before 10 a.m.

Allentown Fire Department Captain John Christopher said the fire was contained to a 3-by-3 foot section of carpet on the eighth floor.

Christopher said the fire did not set off the sprinkler system and firefighters were able to put the flames out with a water can.

Evacuations were limited to the eight floor.

Gross Towers is located in the 600 block of North 14th Street in Allentown.
