Surveillance video catches daylight shooting, police say

Teenager allegedly shot victim in Allentown in May

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Authorities allege security video captured a South Whitehall Township teenager shooting a man in broad daylight on an Allentown street.

Alex Oneil Figueroa, of North Cedar Crest Boulevard, faces attempted homicide and aggravated assault charges for allegedly shooting a man in the arm in the 600 block of West Green Street last month. The 18-year-old has been in Lehigh County Jail since his arrest and arraignment on May 30.

Figueroa was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday, but his court date in Lehigh County Central Court was rescheduled for June 28.

Allentown police were dispatched shortly before 3 p.m. on May 20 to investigate a reported shooting in the 600 block of West Green Street. When officers arrived, they found the victim near his car bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to his right forearm, according to court records.

Officers applied a tourniquet to his arm. Allentown paramedics transported him to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, where the victim had surgery.

Police said they found three .380 shell casings on the sidewalk near the victim’s car.

The victim told authorities that the shooter was the uncle of his sister’s child.

Investigators said they found video surveillance footage from the 600 block of West Green Street that showed a man approaching the victim, who was standing next to his vehicle. The two men appeared to be speaking to each other before the shooter, later identified as Figueroa, pulled out a hidden handgun and fired multiple shots, according to court records.

The shooter ran east on West Green Street.

During an interview with investigators at the hospital, the victim said Figueroa had walked up to him on the street and confronted him about a dispute with Figueroa’s father, according to records. He provided police with a social media photo of his alleged shooter.

The victim later picked Figueroa out of a photo array as his attacker.

Police charged Figueroa with attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license.
