Susan Autenrieth throws infant to floor during fight with child's father, police say

Suspect is wife of man killed in shootout with state police in 2009

Susan Autenrieth arrested

NAZARETH, Pa. - A woman flung her 8-month-old boy to the floor during an argument with the child's father, officials said.

Susan Autenrieth was quarreling with the infant's father over her alleged drug use in their home in the 100 block of North Broad Street in Nazareth, Northampton Co., at about 4:25 a.m. Wednesday when she threw the infant to the floor and he landed on his head, officials said.

Court records did not indicate how badly the infant was injured.

Autenrieth also shoved and smacked the infant's father before fleeing with the child, said officials, adding that Autenrieth later returned with the baby.

The infant's father told police Autenrieth has a drug problem that is not being treated, officials said.

Autenrieth, 35, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, assault and harassment. She was committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 12.

In June 2009, Autenrieth's estranged husband, Daniel Autenrieth, kidnapped their son from his home in Nazareth and, after a 40-mile chase into Monroe County, died in a shootout with state police.

Trooper Joshua Miller also lost his life in the shootout, and another trooper was injured. Autenrieth's son escaped unharmed.
