Suspect arrested in deadly shooting of man, 19

Arrest made in shooting near park

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A suspect is in custody in connection with the deadly shooting of one young man and the wounding of another near a playground earlier this week, authorities announced late Friday.

Lafayette Upshaw was apprehended Thursday on unrelated drug charges, said Jim Martin, the Lehigh County district attorney.

Upshaw, 29, is in the Lehigh County Prison, now facing criminal homicide and attempted homicide charges in connection with Wednesday's deadly gunfire, which erupted near a playground in the 600 block of West Tilghman Street in Allentown.

Anthony Santiago, 19, was shot and killed; Tyquan Lloyd, 20, suffered a non-life-threatening wound to his foot, officials said. A third man they were with, while in the line of fire, was not injured.

Upshaw was last known to live in an apartment in the 100 block of South Blank Street in Allentown, said officials, who added that he will remain in prison without bail.

Martin commended Allentown police and the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force for their efforts in making a quick arrest in the case.
