Suspect in custody 24 years after deadly Allentown stabbing

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An investigation by detectives starting in 1993 may have finally led to some answers.

Now-retired Detective Glenn Granitz Sr. issued an arrest warrant for Marcello Morales June 29, 1993 charging him with criminal homicide and possession of instruments of a crime in relation to a stabbing in Allentown that left one victim dead.

Morales has remained wanted since then -- until now.

With the cooperation and continued help of officials, Morales was taken into custody in Apex, North Carolina Tuesday morning. He is incarcerated at the Wake County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.

The incident occurred June 26, 1993, when officers responded to the report of a stabbing in Allentown just before 4:30 p.m.

Officers found Edwin Torress suffering from stab wounds in the 200 block of North 7th Street. He was taken to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his wounds.
