Suspicious deaths in Allentown ruled homicide, suicide

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Lehigh County Coroner has supplied some answers in relation to the suspicious deaths in Allentown Tuesday.

Lwam Tesfamariam, 26, was pronounced dead Tuesday at her residence in the 400 block of South 15th Street. However, the incident occurred Monday night after 11:30 p.m., according to the coroner's report.

The autopsy shows the cause of death is attributed to sharp force injuries with possible asphyxiation. The coroner ruled the manner of death a homicide.

About two hours later on Tuesday, 35-year-old Ambes Weldeabzgh was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m. in the basement of an apartment two blocks away on South 13th Street. The coroner ruled the manner of death a suicide.

The coroner says Tesfamariam and Weldeabzgh were husband and wife.

"The Allentown Police Department and the Lehigh County District Attorney are satisfied that Mr. Weldeabzgh was responsible for the death or Ms. Tesfamariam," the coroner's report states.

Police and neighbors say Weldeabzgh is from East Africa and is one of the owners of the 13th Street building. Apparently his car had been parked on the street since 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say the woman found at the Valley View Apartments lived with at least 6 adults, but as of now won't say if there are witnesses to what happened.

Police, the Lehigh County DA's Office and the coroner are investigating.
