Swain celebrates MLK Jr. Day

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Civil rights leader Martin Luther King Junior is being honored throughout the country and in our area Monday.

The Swain School at 1100 S. 24th Street in Allentown, hosted its fourth annual Martin Luther King Day community celebration Monday morning.

The event -- with the theme "The Unknown Heroes: People Behind the Civil Rights Movement" -- featured musical performances, educational programs for youngsters and guest speakers.

Visitors brought a birthday party item with them to honor Dr. King's birthday, and the items are being donated to the Northampton Area Food Bank.

Cedar Crest College President Doctor Carmen Twillie Ambar was the keynote speaker..
