Teen shot in leg, tells Allentown police it was during an attempted robbery

Teen shot in Allentown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A 17-year-old boy walked into a hospital in Allentown late Wednesday night with a gunshot wound to his right leg, police said.

The victim told police he was walking on Trout Creek West, off Auburn Street, at about 9:58 p.m. when he heard someone yell his nickname.

The victim looked up and was confronted by a man who told the victim to empty his pockets, said police, adding that the boy was shot when he refused to comply with the assailant's demand.

The victim told police he called a friend to take him to the hospital, where he was subsequently interviewed by investigators, who said they found "overwhelming inconsistencies in his story."

The victim's mother then intervened and told police they wanted no further action from the police department, officials said.

Police said they will continue their investigation.
