Tex Wells throws in the (barbecue) apron

He gives up fight to keep food truck in North Whitehall Twp.

NORTH WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - Barbecue lovers will have to find their fix somewhere beside Tex Well's food truck.

He had parked his Tex's Smokin' Barb-B-Q truck and smoker in North Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, serving up portions of smoked food from a parking lot on Route 309 at Shankweiler Road.

That is, until the North Whitehall Zoning Hearing Board received complaints about the smoke coming from the stand.

Wells applied for a special exception from the zoning board, which was scheduled to rule on June 12.

However, on Wednesday, Wells withdrew his application, and said he's not interested in fighting it any longer.

Wells said he's overwhelmed by all the support he's received: nearly 57,000 Facebook hits after he announced he was closing his current location.

The cook said he's taking some time off to "regain my composure and figure out what's next."
