The Eagles announced as 1st concert at PPL Center

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Eagles will perform the first concert at the PPL Center in downtown Allentown on Sept. 12

The iconic rock and roll band will bring its 'History of the Eagles' tour to the new hockey arena at Seventh and Hamilton streets.

According to the band's website, the concert will feature classics spanning the band's career, including some that have never been performed live before this tour, as well as songs featured in the group's acclaimed top-selling documentary by the same name.

The announcement was made at 11 a.m. Thursday by Global Spectrum, operators of the new arena.

"The Eagles are one of the biggest bands in the world and what a terrific way to open this beautiful new facility," said Global Spectrum's Gunnar Fox, general manager of the PPL Center. "The Eagles will be the first live event in a season-long celebration of this fabulous new arena that will include concerts, sporting events, hockey games, family shows and other special events."

The PPL Center will be the home of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, a minor league hockey team in the American Hockey League, associated with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The arena is expected to be ready for the Phantom's 2014-2015 season, which starts in September.

The PPL Center will also host concerts and other events, organizers said. The arena can hold 8,500 for hockey games and 10,000 for concerts, making it the region's largest events venue.

Tickets for the Eagles concert go on sale March 28 at 10 a.m. and will be available at pplcenter.com or by-phone at 1-800-298-4200.

American Express cardholders will be able to buy tickets beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, through Thursday, March 27 at 10 p.m. Check eaglesband.com for complete tour and ticketing updates.
