Third graders give to those less fortunate at local food bank

NAZARETH, Pa. - Some students in Northampton County got a lesson on the true spirit of giving.

Third grade students from Kenneth Butz Elementary School in Nazareth went on a field trip to the local food bank Wednesday. They decided as a class they wanted to do something special for those less fortunate.

The students brought donations they collected and helped stock the shelves.

"We are living in a time which is very materialistic and I wanted to make sure my class realized there was so much more than just the presents under the tree; that giving and receiving starts in the heart and one way we could do that is volunteer our time and see what we could do for the community," said Susan Klotz, third grade teacher.

Teachers say this is the first year students have taken this kind of field trip.
