Tractor-trailer crosses I-78, crashes into Hellertown exit sign

HELLERTOWN, Pa. - An accident snarled traffic on Interstate 78 in Northampton County Friday morning.

A 69 News crew at the scene said it appears a tractor-trailer was driving on I-78 westbound when it ended up crossing over the highway and driving through the wire barrier.

It kept going across the eastbound lanes, eventually crashing into the Hellertown Route 412 exit sign and driving off the side of the road and down an embankment.

The truck finally stopped in the grass just before Route 412.

The tractor-trailer seems to be the only vehicle involved in the crash.

A crew at the scene said the driver does not appear injured.

Traffic is backed up in the area so drivers should expect delays.
